Melva aims to create a sustainable, biodegradable, and ethical mica replacement. Mica is a none renewable mineral used in many industries and it is known to be associated with child labor, health concerns, and unsustainability.

At Melva, we know we cannot directly solve the child labor issue, but we do know our consumers have powers. You as a consumer have powers to make sure that the products you are buying do not employ child labor. No one will produce what no one buys.
Inspiration
Biologically-Inspired Solution
We looked at biology for inspiration and we found out that some organisms produce or contain shiny materials naturally, such as beetle exoskeleton, butterfly wings, or bacteria that produce a bioluminescent metabolite.

This helped us to come up with our current solution, which is extracting shiny particles from bacteria.
